header background

GeneSpectrum was founded by Brown chemists and computer scientists John Oliver, Eli Upfal, and Franco Preparata to significantly improve the performance of sequencing by hybridization (SBH), and decrease the cost and increase the speed of sequencing DNA. The technology employed arrays of patterned oligonucleotides, which allowed the use of unique algorithms that resulted in highly efficient sequence reconstruction.

The company was acquired in 2006 by NabSys, another Slater portfolio company.
